Stupid things I've done?
I accidently used normal Salvage Kit on one then another purple Mind-Spark's garb without even identifying the second.

I formed a guild, payed 2000 for a cloak just to see if a black cape with a golden gryphon would look good on my mesmer.

How did you get fur squares in pre-searing if you can't buy expert salvage kits until Yak's Bend?

Also, FYI, I tried to sell my belt pouch to the two merchants in post-searing Ascalon and they only offered me 6g for it. If all of the post-searing merchants are like that, you are better off selling the worn belts and skale fins or salvaging them.

Oh boy, imagine my excitement when I find my first vial of dye. I don't want to dye just one piece of armor though, so I dye my crappy shield. Guess what color the dye was. 2 points if you guessed black. :/

Another character, and my first to go post-searing: First thing I do is check out what new armor is available. I buy the materials and start buying pieces. I have enough gold to get a complete new set. I'm happily clicking away but when I click on the chest armor nothing happens. I get mad and do it again. Try to close the merchant window and realize I have bad lag and can't do anything. The lag clears. Great, I now have 2 chest armor and not enough gold for the last piece to complete the set. Ouch.

Oh well, I'm still new. I'm sure I'll make plenty more stupid mistakes.

Going in a quest with the wrong skills. I was in absolute agony when I happened to put in Ice skills without any Atr points into ice magic, and I cast it away without seeing the damage I'm taking (I didn't use any healing spells at the time either...)

I literally did all that but #2

I also had this snaffu:

When I got to Yak's Bend for the first time, I immediately headed out of town to try for some xp from something OTHER THAN damn grawl or devourers. I was made into hamburger by some gigantic ice dudes and a midget on a yak glowing purple...I was sooooo unprepared for the frozen north

***SPOILER ALERT***

So I think I topped it this weekend. I was on the Fort Runik Quest with 2 pals and a pickup player, and being the obligatory meat shield I was tearing through as they provided me the healing, bleeding and hexes necessary to make our journey surprisingly easy. Well for some reason, when we get to the main part of the mission whereby the catapult must be manned to clear out the Charrs, I get picked to spin the wheel of fortune. So first time doing the quest... I couldn't see anymore Charr anywhere, and my necro party mate decided he'd head out to check out if there was something else to do to end the mission. The Monk goes with, as does the Ranger. Well, first off... let me say in the last game I played the "space" bar functioned as the "clear all windows" command. So while checking through my inventory and attributes and whatever else I could open as I was waiting... I hit "space". The computer heard: "DO IT!". So the crank - already pulled back - launched a fiery death upon my party. The necro and Monk fell immediately. The Ranger was down near full health, and I guess they also activated a rest of the Char to come over and say hello. By the time I got out to try to rez the Monk, it was a lost cause. And I'm pretty sure they are still laughing...

And me? I'm now nick'd "Trigger Boy" for all future adventures....

Luckily, we creamed the Charr throug the gates with my AoE spells =D

I liked Gwen. I don't consider buying the cape for her stupid. I'm still hoping I'll run into her somewhere post-Searing, all-growed-up.

Now with the mistakes:

*I bought too many runes of holding.

*Placed one of the candles in the early catacomb Necromancer quest. When the green stuff started killing me, I zoned out. I got a monk to help me out, and placed the other three candles- but the first one was gone. Luckily, I was able to talk to the trainer and get more candles.

*Forgetting that Norton Antivirus virus scans my computer everyday at noon, and that I have barely enough ram to run GW as it is.
For like three days in a row, Norton would boot up right at noon, and GW would get laggy and unresponsive. I died everytime that happened, during a critical fight.
Norton Antivirus now autoscans at 10 am, which is usually before I get up.

I have been busy doing more stupid things since my original post.
This one is now my favorite.

*** SPOILER ALERT ****

I have been reading this website and others to see where certain skills I want can be found. Several that I truly crave can allegedly be gotten in the Temple of the Ages. So, I check out this website's handy dandy map, find where this Temple is, and off I go.

For hours I slog through zone after zone, getting tooled on repeatedly with just me and the henchmen. But I finally get to the Temple whoo hooo! Then I discover that none of the NPCs will sell me any skills or give me any quests. Bah.

Being the persistant sort, I keep clicking on anything and everything there. Finally, either from something I did or something someone else did (you did read that spoiler warning I hope), I find a ghost next to the warrior statue. I click on him and wooot he talks to me! He wants a donation of 1 plat ....

I give the guy 1 plat and presto magico I am teleported to a zone to test my courage. The zone is full of swarms of level 26 mobs. I am level 19 and I don't even have my little henchmen. The swarms beat me like a tied down circus monkey. A message flashes that I failed and I am back in the Temple of the Ages. Clicking on the ghost, he wants another 1 plat. Not this time cowboy.

Thus concludes my heroic journey to The Temple of the Ages.

We were are killed and the rez portal plopps you in the temple zone tough togh rez area. We are died so often we all had 60% DP but were killing two or three charr each time so were slowly making headway. Well been chugging at it for half an hour like this and had managed to kill of thre or four total mobs. When three of the four of us were killed and the fourth guys was still standing he says "Wow I just noticed we are close to a portal let me go through and we will all lose the DP" and starts running. The three of us lying there dead are screaming for him to stop and not go out of the zone to no avail. Then he realizes its just another zone not an out post or town so we all keep the DP and have to zone back to start the crap over again finally did it but WHOA that was the dumb. FUnny thought we rezoned back in and he says "oh sorry guys my bad"

Oh, man... the EXACT same thing happened to me, only we had a monk and we were already at 60% DP when our monk as sole survivor fled the map. We were all resurrected automatically when the zone changed, which is nice... but unfortunately everything else had respawned.

So we kept dying and spawning and dying and spawning only to make incremental progress.. At one point, we were averaging like 1-3 Charr Martyrs dead per colossal party failure and respawn, so it took a good 20 mins to get the ashes

My stupid thing: I had a nice staff that increased my spellcasting speed. While shuffling my inventory, I double clicked another staff without realizing that this equips the item. I then proceeded to hurriedly sell all my extra items to a merchant without really looking at their descriptions only to realize too late that I had sold my nice staff by mistake.

On a related note, this thread brings up an excellent point, and one of Guild War's shortcomings: no comprehensive player's guide. The manual is nice and thick, but half of it is a story and the other is basic information. Is there a comprehensive player's guide somewhere so we don't have to go through the frustration of learning the game by trial and error?

The dumbest thing I have done is dye my armor Black in post-searing, then bought a dye remover because I didn't like it, and cleaned it up...

At least my armor was black for about 1 minute...

Got a good one. Traveled all the way from Nolani with my hencies to do Althea's Ashes. Made it there. We're all DP 60%. We're taking out one shaman per total party wipe, then coming back for another.

I'm there. I'm at the star. I'm at her ashes.

Whoops...I left the darn urn in storage because I needed to make room from a quest I did the previous evening.

Sigh...I'm off to spill some milk and cry over it now.
